The Hanover and District Hospital is in outbreak status,
The two new C-Difficile cases are being linked to the first outbreak which began last November and lasted right into the new year.
Vice President of Patient Care Services Reta Sproule says it is not unusual to have these ebbs and flows.
She says this is because C-Difficile is a spore which can live 4 to 6 weeks on objects.
Because of this Unit I is undergoing a massive cleaning operation in which every nook and cranny will be disinfected.
The best line of defense is to clean your hands. The hospital has even installed auditory reminders for visitors to clean their hands.
Of the two new C-Difficile cases, one person has been released and the other remains in hospital
The Hanover Hospital is meeting daily with representatives from the Ministrys Health Protection and Prevention Agency as well as Public Health on the matter.
The hospital must go 60 days without a new case of C-Difficile before the outbreak status can be lifted. (Last time it was only 30 days.)
Its only been a month since the last outbreak status was lifted. From November to January 10 people fell ill with C-Difficile.
Of the 10 patients, 6 people died. And while C-Difficile was a contributing factor it was never a direct cause.
Older patients as well as those on certain antibiotics are at higher risk of catching the super bug.
