Taxpayers in Saugeen Shores are looking at a 2.82 per cent tax hike this year.
Treasurer Lori Sweiger says that will mean an additional $28.58 for the average home assessed at 205 thousand dollars.
Mayor Mike Smith believes staff and council have come up with a very good budget.
He says the 38.4 million dollar budget for 2010 maintains existing service levels and does not impact staff levels.
Smith also says they will be able to do some major capital projects this year including work on the North Road and the installation of sanitary sewers north of the Saugeen River in Southampton.
Councillor Diane Huber says the 20.1 million dollar sewer project eats up a lot of capital funding but she believes it is money well spent.
She says its not just about sewers but will also improve 11 kilometres of roads, at least a quarter of the road infrastructure in Saugeen Shores.
Huber also recognizes that Saugeen Shores was lucky because their provincial funding actually went up while many other municipalities are struggling with major cuts.
She adds staff deserve a lot of the credit for helping to whittle the tax increase down from an original 9 per cent.
Final adoption of the 2010 Saugeen Shores budget is scheduled for the April 12th council meeting.
