Taking the first step is sometimes the most difficult – but could be the most important.
The First Steps Learning Series is being offered through the Alzheimer Society Of Grey Bruce for those trying to find out more about dementia.
Sandra Hong is a Public Education Coordinator for the Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce and says the series plays an important role in recognizing the onset of Alzheimer’s disease and it’s first stages.
Hong says the series helps caregivers cope with the changes that are happening to the person suffering with the disease.
Hong says the series is a lot of dialogue that the caregivers bring to the group in different topics such as planning ahead once the disease progresses and building a circle of support.
She adds dementia and those who care patients often feel very alone and this type of learning series makes people understand there are other people dealing with the same issues.
Hong adds there are several locations for the series and although the series is underway there is still time to join.
The locations for the series are Markdale, Meaford, Lion’s Head and Owen Sound.
Hong says you can contact the Alzheimers Society of Grey Bruce not just for for the First Steps Learning Program but for any information on memory loss.
The series continues until the end of March and the office can be contacted at 519-376-7230.
