The OPP have announced they have charged 70 year old Fred Preston with first-degree murder in the death of Huron OPP Constable Vu Pham.
Preston has also been charged with attempted murder in relation to another officer after the incident on Monday east of Goderich.
Pham — the 15 year veteran of the force who lived in Wingham — was shot after pulling a vehicle over on a rural road.
Preston, of Sundridge, remains in a London hospital recovering from bullet wounds.
He is a former municipal politician in the area.
A full police funeral for Pham who was married with three sons, will be held on Friday at 1 PM at the Wescast Community Complex in Wingham.
Visitation at the McBurney Funeral Home in Wingham on Thursday from 2 PM to 4 PM and again 7 PM to 9 PM.
Pham’s adoptive sister Heather Thompson of Sundridge says Pham was a dedicated family man who will be greatly missed.
Thompson says she’s glad police are honouring Pham because he is a man worthy of being honoured.
Thompson says Pham serves as an example to many people on many different levels.
She says Pham was a good family man, brother and son.
Thompson also praises Pham’s dedication to his church and that he wore his faith on his sleeve.
A trust fund has also been set up for Pham’s three boys.
Donations are being accepted through any Scotia Bank branch or through the McBurney Funeral Home in Wingham.
