At least one Saugeen Shores Councillor hopes residents won’t be penalized for recycling efforts.
The waste management budget is dealing with a financial shortfall.
Part of that is because less trash is going to the curb and more recycling is being done.
Councillor Diane Huber has heard one option to supplement the budget may be to increase bag tag fees.
Landfill tipping fees could also be increased, or both could happen.
Huber hopes there are many other options for consideration though.
Huber says nothing more will be concrete until a report is tabled at council March 8th by public works at the earliest.
The number of bags of garbage collected has dropped substantially in the nearly two years Saugeen Shores residents have been paying a dollar fifty per bag.
