If you are looking for an Oscar party, then visit Galaxy Cinema in Owen Sound and support the United Way of Bruce Grey.
They are hosting the First Annual Awards Night at the Movies.
The celebration includes a red carpet with the paparazzi, prizes, a silent auction and watching the 82nd Academy Awards on the big screen.
Tickets are only 25 dollars each and the money raised will go to the United Way’s backpack program.
United Way Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn says they need to find more ways to raise money for the program which is in high demand.
Dobbyn says they need to raise 50 thousand dollars this year so that kids from low income families can take a new backpack to school.
She notes they handed out 17 hundred backpacks last year and she expects that number to climb as more families look for social assistance.
It took the United Way 16 months to get permission to host the Oscar party because they needed approval from the Academy Awards.
Galaxy Cinemas Manager John Mulder says they have a number of great movie prizes up for auction.
One of the prized possessions is a framed “Up in the Air” poster autographed by the entire cast, including star George Clooney.
Mulder thinks the Oscar for Best Picture will a hot race between “Avatar” and “The Hurt Locker.”
Tickets for the Oscar party can be purchased at Galaxy Cinemas in Owen Sound until 6 PM.
