A Hamilton-area man has won a photo contest sponsored by Grey County Tourism.
Pete Streun of Mount Hope was the grand prize winner in the Fun in Focus contest.
He and three other winners were honoured at a county council meeting earlier this week.
Streun’s candid photo of his two sons fishing early one morning on Lake Charles won the grand prize package, valued at five thousand dollars.
The package includes five nights’ accommodation at the Days Inn in Owen Sound, five breakfasts and two dinners at Kincaid’s Restaurant, a digital camera, a guided adventure, a mountain bike rental, a sightseeing flight, a boat cruise, a waterfall tour package and a GPS unit.
The photo will also be published in a future issue of Harrowsmith Country Life Magazine.
Streun says his wife noticed an advertisement for the photo contest and urged him to enter.
He has been visiting this region since he was a child, and it remains a favourite getaway spot for his family.
Four other photographs were announced as winners, one representing each season of the year.
Rebecca MacDonald of Owen Sound, last year’s grand prize winner, won the summer and winter categories this time around.
Melissa Couch of Chatsworth won for spring and Maureen Elliott of Owen Sound won for fall.
Each of the seasonal winners will receive a one-year subscription to Harrowsmith Country Life Magazine.
County tourism manager Bryan Plumstead says the contest was a huge success.
Of the 219 entries, 60 per cent of them came from people who live outside Grey-Bruce.
Plumstead notes during the contest — traffic on the county’s tourism website was up 50 per cent over the same time period from the year before.
That said, this will be the last Focus on Fun contest.
Plumstead says they are working on a new campaign which will be announced in the spring.
