Collingwood Music students have taken high scores at the school’s annual Music Festival.
Both drumlines scored Gold, as did the “A” and “C” Jazz Ensembles, and the ‘A’ concert band.
The B concert Band and B Jazz ensemble each received a high silver, with an invitation to the national competition.
The “C” concert band received a silver from the judges.
The music groups are not competing against one another; they’re competing against a set standard for performance.
The rest of the week, CCI will host more than 35 hundred student musicians from all across Ontario.
CCI musician Mitchell Newman plays the trombone in the C jazz and concert bands, and is also the lead snare player in the C drum line.
He says it’s nerve racking getting up in front of the adjudicators and playing, especially for the first time.
The public’s invited to the performances; tickets are two dollars and the bands perform between 9 AM and 5 PM.
