West Grey’s Mayor to decision to hold a news conference over the boundary dispute in Hanover has caught some people by surprise — and that includes of Mayor of Hanover.
Officials are happy to discuss the issue further.
Hanover Mayor Kathi Maskell says the news conference caught her by surprise.
West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles called on the media Monday to say it would be West Grey calling the shots — and not Hanover — over any boundary issues.
Maskell says the timing is weird since the annexation and restructuring issue has not been a topic of conversation for awhile.
Eccles says West Grey is open to the idea of shared services between the two municipalities.
And Maskell says that is something Hanover offered at the beginning of the year.
Originally Hanover rejected the idea — citing industry would not be interested in dealing with two municipalities.
Maskell adds she’s delighted that West Grey is willing to come back to the table in an attempt to hammer out an agreement that will benefit both municipalities.
Hanover and West Grey have been at odds over West Grey land just east of Hanover.
Originally Hanover wanted to extend its borders into West Grey in order to expand its commercial sector and hopefully create more employment opportunities.
