It will be a day of tough decisions for Collingwood council.
Council is being challenged to cut some capital budget projects and is getting an early start at 2 PM.
Council will decide whether to accept staff recommendations to cut five million dollars from the capital budget.
If accepted, two million would be cut from the heritage park revitalization project so only the pool would be upgraded this year and the wellness centre to replace the aging contact centre would have to wait.
The cuts also include postponing the 1.6 million dollars for property acquisitions for the High Street roundabout and 1.3 million for a new public works garage.
Councillors will decide whether to direct staff to see if the town can get any financial support of sponsorships to help with the construction of a million dollar roof over the outdoor rink at Central Park.
Spending a hundred thousand dollars on an engineering study on the feasibility of covering the rink will also be considered.
Council will revisit whether to spend almost 123 thousand dollars to hire four new firefighters.
At a meeting three weeks ago, council rejected the request over concerns about the cost and need for that many new firefighters.
Taking 1.5 million dollars from reserves to give to the Y for the expansion of its pool is another decision council faces today.
