The Bruce Grey Catholic School Board is spending a lot of green to go green.
In effort to lessen their carbon footprint — the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board is undertaking a number of projects.
Superintendent of Business Cathy Colton says it is time to put the plans from their energy audit into action.
This includes spending 204 thousand dollars over the next two years to upgrade school lighting systems particularly in gymnasiums.
800 thousand dollars will also be spent over the next two years to upgrade heating, ventilation and boiler systems as well as replacing windows in certain schools.
These projects are being financed through a 2.6 million dollar Energy Efficient Schools Funding grant.
1.5 million has already been spent — it was used to help finance the replacement of the St. Peter’s & St. Paul’s portable with a permanent addition to the school.
The energy audit cost an additional 65 thousand dollars.
Colton says going green is about more than just energy efficiencies.
She says it about doing the right thing, reducing green house gas emissions.
Colton adds it’s important the Catholic Board set a good example for students.
