A special ceremony at the Billy Bishop Home and Museum to honour nine local veterans of the Second World War and Korean War.
A private presentation was made Wednesday to the men of the plaques that documents their war service which had been on display since October in the Museums Honouring local Veterans display.
Only the veterans and their families were at this special ceremony, which Museum Manager Mary Smith says is another way to pay tribute to them.
She says it’s very important that we continue to do this so people never forget just what these vets did for us so many years ago.
Smith also is encouraging the families of the veterans to encourage them to come forward and tell their story so the museum has information for any future tributes before all the world war vets are gong.
The Historica Dominion Institute estimates that world war two veterans are dying at the rate of about 500 a week across Canada.
Smith says its possible that in the future the Museum will begin honouring veterans who served in Bosnia and Afghanistan.
This is the 9th year that the Museum has honoured the local veterans in such a way.
