The Sauble Beach sewer project is moving forward despite pleas from the public.
South Bruce Peninsula Council approved zoning bylaws for the Sauble Beach Waste Water Treatment Plant at Tuesday night’s meeting.
Sauble Beach resident Nancy Brent made a presentation to council members and an audience of more than 30 people.
Brent requested the bylaws be rejected because of outdated information and errors in the plan that was provided to the ratepayers.
Brent also requested a public meeting be held in the spring for all concerns and questions to be addressed.
Brent is disappointed by Council’s decision — but adds she knew it was coming.
Brent says the residents are not opposed to the entire sewer system, they just have a problem with the plant location and the planning.
Brent calls it “a good idea gone bad.”
The treatment plant is to be located just behind Fedy Drive in Sauble Beach.
There is a 30 day appeal period for residents to take the issue to the Ontario Municipal Board.
After that — Mayor Gwen Gilbert says Council will begin talking to engineers about some of the concerns they have heard.
Gilbert says once they have all the information around the cost of the sewers — another public meeting will be held.
The estimated cost of the sewage system is 10.1 million dollars and it needs to be complete by March 2014 to receive 6.24 millions dollars in government funding.
