Bluewater District School Board officials are looking to finalize details of an exchange program with South Korean teachers and students.
The project ts to provide better English as a Second Language training for the Koreans.
Bluewater Board Chair Jennifer Yenssen has just returned from a fact finding mission to Korea to speak with education officials there about the logistics of the proposed exchange program, which she hopes can get underway this summer.
She says the Korean Education officials are quite enthusiast about having teachers come to Grey Bruce for professional development and to improve their English.
Yenssen also says the agreement would see Korean students coming to Bluewater for between two and four weeks for summer camps to take place the the Outdoor Education facility in Oliphant.
She says its quite normal for Korean parents to send their children off to summer camp, and coupled with a desire to improve their English, there is a lot of support to do that in Grey Bruce.
Yenssen says the Korean education officials told here Canadian English is seen as a standard form of English and that makes Bluewater a desirable partner.
She expects some South Korean Educators will visit the area in May to visit the area and discuss further the proposed partnership.
Yenssen also would like to see a number of Grey Bruce students attend this summer camp for a cultural exchange and learning opportunity with the Korean students.
As for the cost, Yenssen says the board would run the summer camps on a cost recover basis, so there would be no additional expenses for the board.
