It is time to change the way democracy works in Ontario.
That is the plea from Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch who continues to be banned from sitting in the Legislature because of his anti HST sit in late last year.
He says he and the speaker, Steve Peters were unable to come to an acceptable agreement last week on what form of apology Murdoch would have to make to be allowed back into the Legislature.
Murdoch states it is a very complicated issue, and there is much more to it than just saying he is sorry.
He says the root of his protest is far deeper than just the Liberals pushing the Harmonized Sales Tax on people without any consultation.
Murdoch says his sit in also was to protest what he calls the erosion of democracy in Ontario, where MPP’s are elected by the people, but when they get to Queens Park, they stop listening to their constituents wishes, and tow the party line.
He says many MPP are afraid to speak up against what he calls Party democracy for fear of losing their chance of promotion within the party ranks.
Murdoch says the problem is that there are just one or two people at Queens Park who run the whole show and some of them are not even elected.
