Money for a Collingwood shelter for women fleeing abuse.
Simcoe Grey MP Helena Guergis announced the just over 221 thousand dollars in funding on Monday.
The funding is for a pilot project designed by My Friend’s House in Collingwood, and comes from the Women’s Community Fund of Status of Women Canada.
The shelter was the recipient of the gift of a house last summer.
They want to use the house to provide intense and longer-term therapy for women fleeing abusive domestic situations.
Guergis says she was thrilled when the proposal was put on her desk for approval.
My Friend’s House executive director Alison Fitzgerald says this new project will provide long term therapeutic intervention to support women as they transition from the shelter back into the community.
