When people picture child poverty, areas such as Grey Bruce likely don’t come to mind.
But according to Grey Bruce Children’s Alliance — poverty is a very real problem in this area.
The Alliance is a partnership among 18 organizations that provides support and services to assist children and their families escape poverty.
The group has recently helped introduce a new platform called Bridges out of Poverty to local organizations.
Bridges out of Poverty author and consultant Philip DeVol says the goal is to teach people what it really means to be in poverty, and how education, training and resources can be used to help.
He says by recognizing what being in poverty means to someone in that situation, we can better understand how to find solutions.
DeVol says each of the 18 organizations within the Alliance can use the ideas of his Bridges out of Poverty platform to suit their individual needs.
Three experts from the Bridges program will be at the Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound for the next 3 days to train 50 people from a range of social organizations.
These organizations include the Children’s Aid Society, The Women’s Centre, and United Way of Bruce Grey.
