West Grey is looking for the province to cover their bill from last summer’s tornado.
The municipality is applying to the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program for 120 thousand dollars.
Mayor Kevin Eccles says the bill includes costs to repair damage on municipal property and overtime to clean up damage.
As for the tornado victims — the Grey County Disaster Relief Committee has raised 200 thousand dollars.
And when the province matches every dollar raised with two dollars — the money available for residents will total 600 thousand dollars.
Eccles says a committee has looked at the applications from tornado victims.
He says they will soon be sending letters back to residents to let them know how much money they are eligible to claim.
The news comes as West Grey Council meets today to begin budget deliberations.
Eccles hopes they can find some savings to bring down the proposed tax increase to five per cent.
But he hopes they can find additional savings in future meetings to finish with a 2 to 3 per cent tax hike this year.
