A group of 10 investors and a Kincardine-based wind farm developer are planning to put up another wind turbine in the Tiverton area.
It will be one single 1.65 megawatt turbine, not a complete windfarm, and the equipment will be Canadian-made.
Leader Wind Resources Services President Charles Edey says the 10 people simply just want to put up their own wind turbine.
There are two other windfarms in the Tiverton area and Edey says it makes sense to put the turbine up in a place where others have been successful.
Leader has also been involved with projects in the Kincardine area, Huron-Kinloss, Brockton, and Arran-Elderslie.
Edey says they’re convinced their project will go ahead, but it’s conditional on permission from the Ontario Power Authority’s feed-in-tariff program.
He notes financing is always necessary, but they hope to have the 3.3 million dollar project done by the fall.
As for health concerns about wind turbines, Edey says there are 29 hundred megawatts of wind power in Canada right now, and ten times more in Europe.
He believes it will be proven in Ontario that wind power has less of a health impact than other kinds of power generation.
Edey notes the province is encouraging wind power in order to phase out coal generation which causes pollution and affects people’s health.
He adds they’re doing studies and environmental assessments before their project goes ahead.
