A grassroots initiative by area musicians and business people is doing what it can to help raise funds for relief efforts in earthquake torn Haiti.
“From Home to Haiti” benefit concert will be happening at the Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound Tuesday night.
Steve Ritchie — formerly of Tanglefoot — helped organize the event after seeing the devastation in Haiti after the January 12th earthquake.
Ritchie says the the event came together quite quickly as local artists and sponsors came forward to help.
The stellar lineup includes Country recording artist Tommy Gilham, the Black Family from Markdale and three fifths of Tanglefoot coming out of retirement to perform.
He says the outpouring of community support has been overwhelming with so many local sponsors that 100 per cent of the proceeds will go to the Red Cross.
Pastor Dave Oppertshauser of the Sauble Christian Fellowship Church will also speak about his missionary experiences after being caught in Haiti after the earthquake.
And Ritchie says full marks to The Roxy Theatre who wrote a cheque last week
to cover the tickets sold to that point — in order to take advantage of the federal government’s plan to match dollar for dollar any donations made by last Friday.
