Agriculture is becoming even greener that it already was.
A survey by Farm Credit Canada shows that 60 per cent of those asked in the Agri business and Agri food sector are considering the use of more environmentally friendly management practices.
Brenda Frank is the Senior Director of Strategy of FCC.
Frank says these producers see this move as another way to reduce their environmental footprint and provide more financially value for their business.
She says the agricultural community has a history of environmental sustainability, but now with more focus on looking after the land, producers are examining different and innovative ways to protect the environment.
Frank says that going green also is good for the bottom line as consumer are demanding more sustainability so being more eco conscious can help improve their bottom line.
She says many producers are now practicing something she calls the triple bottom line approach factoring in people, profit and the planet into their success criteria.
Frank says those in the agri business and agria food sector should not look at becoming greener as an expense, but more of an investment.
She says often these initiatives may cost more to implement, further down the road the could save on input costs or offer an opportunity to market at a higher profit level for that product.
Frank says the green economy offers agriculture business operators a chance to find savings like conservation and innovations.
