South Bruce, like many other communities, is wrestling with the 2010 budget.
Mayor Bill Goetz says they have no numbers in mind for the area until at least another budget session is held.
That comes on Thursday, February 18th.
Goetz says the current fly in the ointment for them is the Farm Tax Rebate formula which he says is out of kilter.
He says it hits the municipality hard because the area has one of the highest percentage of farm assessments in the region.
Goetz says under the program the assessment is set at 25 per cent of fair market value.
He says that means the municipality has to get four times as much assessment to realize the true tax dollars that should come from a farm.
Goetz says if all services were to be continued in 2010, it would mean a 7 per cent increase in tax dollars for taxpayers.
Meanwhile, on the capital expenditure side of the ledger, Goetz says they’re ready to put sewers in Formosa and Teeswater starting this summer.
The cost is 20 million dollars.
