A 17 year old student at Collingwood Collegiate is headed for Vancouver today to prepare for the Olympic Games.
Palmer Taylor is the youngest member of Canada’s team at the Vancouver games.
She will compete in the half-pipe snowboard on February 19th at Cypress Mountain in Vancouver.
Taylor tells Bayshore Broadcasting News, she’s very excited to be part of the team, and will definitely have her camera out during the opening ceremonies Friday night.
Currently ranked 61st in World Cup competition, Taylor is not widely expected to make the podium, but says she’s thrilled to be on Canada’s team.
She says her goal is to keep calm and put in good runs when she competes.
The half-pipe she’ll compete on has walls 22-feet tall, compared with the one she’s been training on at Blue Mountain, with walls 16-feet high.
Taylor calls competing in the Olympics a ‘once in a lifetime chance’ and says it’s ‘amazing’ that she gets to do it on home turf.
