The Mayor of Meaford will sit on the steering committee for the Regional Recreation Centre in Owen Sound.
Francis Richardson was nominated to represent Meaford after Council voted 5-2 in favour of sitting on the committee.
Richardson tells Bayshore Broadcasting News he is looking forward to meeting with the group and representing the interests of Meaford residents.
Richardson says he will look into what services Meaford residents use the most now at the Family Y and what they will take advantage of at the new centre.
Richardson notes they have made it clear that Meaford can not contribute financially to the 38 million dollar facility at this time.
There is some concern among Council that representation now will mean a financial commitment down the road.
Richardson says they will deal with that issue once they have their financial house in order — but he warns that will not be for several years.
