A 12 million dollar project in Hanover has been delayed.
A provincial freeze on all gaming expansions has caused a one year delay on the construction of a new Community Hall and Hanover Raceway expansion project.
The Hanover Bentinck and Brant Agriculture Society can not secure a loan from the bank for the project until the province renews its Ontario Lottery Gaming site order agreement with the Society.
The current five year site order agreement expires this month.
And while Agriculture Society Chair Dean Leifso (life-so) doesn’t anticipate any problems renewing the agreement — he says the cash will not flow until it is finalized.
Now the project has been pushed back from a start date of October 2010 to a start date of no later than September of 2011.
Mayor Kathi Maskell admits the delay is disappointing since a lot of residents were looking forward to the Community Banquet Hall.
The 12 million dollar project also included the cost of relocating St. John Ambulance and the town’s tennis courts.
