Here is an indication of just how many people are without a doctor in the Owen Sound area.
The Owen Sound Family Health Team has been accepting applications since the start of the new year — in anticipation of recruiting new doctors this year.
Executive Director Carolyn Grace tells Bayshore Broadcasting News at last check — they’re up to 14 hundred applications.
She admits they had a bit of a slow start where they weren’t quite organized and many were still in ‘holiday mode’ — but she says things are picking up now.
Grace says they’ve been letting future patients know that they’re not going to get a physician overnight.
The three doctors recruited will be joining the health team at various times throughout the year as they’re in various stages of their residency.
But she says its important for continued recruitment that they have the numbers in hand to figure out how many people are without a family doctor.
She says Owen Sound area residents can still still fill in an application by visiting the Professional Centre on 3rd Avenue East.
