Pending climate change and our forests will be the subject of a talk to be given by Ontario’s Environmental Commissioner in Southampton.
Gord Miller is the lead-off speaker in the Transforming the Forestry Sector series at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre beginning tomorrow.
He’ll be speaking on Climate Change and its impact on Forestry.
Miller says despite all the good things we’re doing in what he calls the Great Lakes Forest, the climate change is going to “change the game.”
He says science has learned so much about replenishing the land since our forefathers came here and stripped the land bare thinking Mother Nature would take care of itself.
Miller says such is not the case.
He says the pioneers were ignorant in the real sense of the word.
Now he says we’re doing things to the forest and we should know better and that makes it a bigger sin.
Miller will be here for an informal dinner with participants at 5:30 PM, followed by his presentation at 7 PM.
Museum Program Coordinator Nancy White says there will be several speakers throughout the spring, summer and fall, including several field trips.
The series is open to everyone and individual tickets can be purchased.
White says the series plays into its multifaceted exhibit opening in March called Wood: Rings of Growth.
