The head of Bruce County’s Public Library system says they have safeguards in place.
Marzio Apolloni is talking about a private members bill introduced last year to place a filter on Ontario library computers to block pornographic websites.
But Apolloni says Bruce County has already made strong efforts to ensure people who use library computers don’t access inappropriate websites.
He notes they work with the I-T department on developing an automated booking system for internet users.
If anyone is found to be looking at something they shouldn’t, they will be banned.
Apolloni says parents shouldn’t think filtering software will eliminate everything children might accidentally find online.
He notes at a recent workshop — filtering software blocked the Toronto Star website, but when one word was keyed in, inappropriate material could still be accessed.
