A Kemble area resident is yanking some chains at Georgian Bluffs council.
Keith Davidson has renewed his call for the township to purchase an official ‘chain of office’ for its Mayor.
He says the chain could be adorned with symbols of the township’s natural beauty and other elements representing the history of Georgian Bluffs and its predecessor municipalities.
Davidson says he’s motivated not just by pride for Georgian Bluffs but also because his great-great-grandfather, Thomas Ormiston, was the first reeve of Keppel and Sarawak townships in 1859.
Keppel amalgamated with Sarawak and Derby in the formation of Georgian Bluffs in 2001.
Davidson says it would be particularly nice to see Mayor Allan Barfoot wear the chain this summer when he and Chatsworth Mayor Howard Greig push the button to launch the biodigester.
Barfoot graciously downplayed the talk of a chain of office but Davidson’s idea won support from some members of council as well as CAO Bill White.
And while councillor Judy Gay says she likes the idea in principle… she wonders about spending the 3 to 5 thousand dollars for it.
Davidson says if a fundraising campaign were started to help pay for it, he would gladly kick in a hundred dollars of his own money.
Council will consider the item at its upcoming budget deliberations.
