The 54th Annual Wiarton Willie Festival is still going strong days after the famous groundhog’s prediction.
Events Coordinator Shane Sargant says switching up the schedule this year and kicking off the festival with Groundhog Day was a great idea.
Sargant says it really allowed them to showcase all the week’s upcoming events to a huge crowd.
Sargant says festival activities have continued everyday since Tuesday – and they won’t wrap up until Sunday.
He adds this has to be the biggest Wiarton Willie Festival ever with over 40 events and activities.
Friday started with the crowning of the King and Queen at Gateway Haven and youth dances at Bluewater Park.
There was also the popular Lion’s Club Monte Carlo Night at the arena.
Sargant says Bluewater Park will be jampacked with events for the whole family on Saturday and Sunday.
He says he’s really looking forward to the food festival from 11 AM to 7 PM on both days and also believes the snow carving will be really popular.
Sargant also says it fits that Willie saw his shadow and predicted 6 more weeks of winter, because they’ve planned some great outdoor winter activities.
There’s skating, dog sledding, road hockey, sleigh rides, snow building contests, snolympics, and more.
Sargant adds the traditional events are all back, including the always sold out Lion’s Club Groundhog Ball at the arena from 8 PM to 1 AM Saturday night.
