Plans for the new Alexandra Community School in Owen Sound are moving right along.
Al Gibb — the Bluewater District School Board Manager of Plant Services — says they plan to hold an open house sometime later this month to allow parents and neighbours to see what the new school will look like.
He says the 5 million dollar, single storey design will hold close to 260 students and should fit quite nicely into the neighbourhood.
Gibb says the school will also feature plenty of green initiatives, be fully accessible and have on site parking and student drop off areas.
He says all new schools being built now are fully automated to control temperature and air flow.
They feature high efficiency boilers and large windows to help with lighting and heating costs.
He says they’ll also be using dimmer switches and sky lights in an effort to save as much energy as possible.
Construction will begin in late spring with a completion date set for September of 2011.
