A first ever study about businesses in Markdale and Flesherton is taking place.
Kate Russell is co-ordinating the Business Retention and Expansion project for the Markdale Chamber of Commerce.
Russell says the entire municipality of Grey Highlands is taking part in the study for the very first time.
Russell says the study will take place over the next few weeks where volunteers will go into local businesses and conduct a very indepth interview about their views on having a business in the town.
Russell says through the information gathered — the municipality can better focus on what they need to improve on, and what is already working in their favour.
The B R and E study is funded through the federal governments Community Futures Rural Development Fund.
Once the information is gathered — OMAFRA will input it online so that the results can be seen confidentially and then researched and analyzed further.
The study is expected to be complete by March.
Russell says they could still use volunteers to conduct the interviews.
Russell says the interview process is very important as it is the time to meet with the business owners face to face.
