The rumours are true – but no one is talking about it.
Online blogs indicate Steelback Breweries in Tiverton is shutting down for good this month.
A blog on canadianbeernews.com says the brewery told staff about the closure Thursday, January 28th.
CEO Jonathon Sherman is not returning our calls for comment on the matter.
He took over in 2008 – back in July of 2009 he confirmed with Bayshore Broadcasting News the workforce of fifteen was reduced to four, but at the time hoped it was only a temporary move.
Our calls to the brewery in general remain unreturned as well – and the general voice mail in box is full today.
Kincardine Mayor Larry Kraemer tells Bayshore Broadcasting News he has heard the news as well but can’t substantiate it and will not comment on it.
Online reports and those in the Toronto Star indicate equipment is already up for sale.
This marks the second closure for Steelback – it faced bankruptcy under original owner Frank DAngelo before being relaunched in May fo 2008.
Sherman took control of Steelback in May 2008, six months after the company was given court protection from its creditors.
