Toyota is halting the sales of 8 models in North America and recalling hundreds of thousand vehicles in Canada, and millions in the US.
Many dealerships — including Collingwood Toyota — say they are in communication with clients that are affected.
The issue is with the accelerator pedal sticking in the affected models, and causing unintended acceleration.
The pedals in question were build in a Mississauga based plant, and the stop in vehicle production means that 6 plants across North America will be shut down temporarily.
Two of those plants are in Woodstock and Cambridge, which produce the Corolla, Matrix and RAV-4
The models that are affected by the recall and suspension of sales are the 2009-2010 RAV-4, Corolla, Matrix, Avalon, as well as the 2007-2010 Camry, Tundra, the 2008-2010 Sequoia and the 2010 Highlander.
Toyota says they are trying to get the pedals repaired for customers as quickly as possible.
Customers are encouraged to call their local Toyota dealership to see if their vehicle is affected.
