The Chair of the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board is looking forward to a good year ahead.
In his inaugural address yesterday, Norm Bethune painted a positive picture of a bright new year filled with student achievement and educational gains.
He says the Bruce Grey Catholic Board has a lot to be proud of.
Bethune says Catholic education is not a duplicate of the public system, but rather a distinct and unique system that provides students with a holistic approach to education.
And while the Ministry of Educations mounting deficit is a concern, Bethune is pleased the province is seeking input from boards on where it should make the cuts.
Bethune notes however there is growing concern over the number of new initiatives the province has been rolling out for educators.
He says too many initiatives at once is creating fatigue among staff and resulting in unnecessary stress.
Bethune says it would be far better to roll out a few initiatives at a time to provide staff with a chance to implement them properly before being bombarded with more.
As for the new Minister of Education Leona Dombrowsky, Bethune believes she will be an asset to the Board and looks forward to working with her.
