Fees at most recreation facilities in Meaford are going up.
Council approved a new fee schedule for 2010 at its meeting Monday night.
Operations Director Steve Vokes says all of the increases range between 2 and 4 per cent.
He says they were necessary based on the rising cost of doing business.
Vokes also says the increases were based on rates in adjoining municipalities to ensure that Meaford is offering something comparable with them.
Some of the changes include a one dollar increase on campsites at Memorial Park, where a waterfront site will now cost you 39 dollars a day.
Prime time ice at the Meaford and St. Vincent Community Centre Arena is going up $2.50 to $117.50 per hour.
At the Blue Dolphin Swimming Pool, lessons are going up 5 dollars for Aqua Tot to Swim Kids 9-10, a family swim pass is going up 10 dollars to 170 dollars, and public swim will now be 3 dollars instead of 2.
Councillor Jim McPherson says it’s something you don’t hear very often – but when it comes to the pool, many people actually want the fees to go even higher.
He says most pool users understand that the current facility is nearing the end of its life span and are willing to pay more to ensure they have a facility in the future.
While McPherson says he hasn’t heard from a single person that rec fees in Meaford are too high, he encourages anyone who feels that way to let council know.
