The weather outside isn’t right for baseball — but the Town of Saugeen Shores is hoping to deal with a problem that has arose at a couple of municipal baseball diamonds.
Manager of Recreation and Culture Jayne Jagelewski says there are issues with the dimensions of a couple of the diamonds, and there are safety issues with balls going out of bounds.
She says they need to make sure spectators and nearby residents are kept safe.
Jagelewski says the Cameron Park ball diamond should be reconfigured, with the back catch moved 45 feet and extending the outfield, in order to improve safety.
Too many balls have been hitting nearby houses.
The 45 thousand dollar cost of reconfiguring the Cameron Park diamond is part of the 2010 capital budget proposals.
Local slo-pitch teams have offered to cover 10 thousand dollars of the cost.
Jagelewski says higher fences are also being considered at Biener Park, where many a baseball is being hit right out of the park and into farmer’s fields.
