Canadians will rally across the country today to protest Prime Minister Stephen Harpers proroguing of Parliament.
In our area, a rally is planned at 1 PM outside Conservative MP Larry Millers’ office on 2nd Avenue East in Owen Sound.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound Liberal Candidate for the next election, Kim Love, calls the suspension an unprecedented grasp for power by the Prime Minister.
Proroguing means all 37 bills being debated in Parliament are thrown in the trash.
Discussion on those bills starts again from scratch in March, wasting months of hard work by all parties.
These bills included new crime legislation, limits on credit card insurance rates.
Opposition parties say the Prime Minister is shutting down Parliament until after the Olympics because Committees investigating accusations of torture of Afghan detainees now have to stop working.
A Facebook site on the net says “Canadians Against Proroguing Parliament” is a grassroots movement.
Their request is simple, that MP’s go back to work on January 25th as originally planned.
