Kincardine Councillors are planning to lend a helping hand to Haiti.
Councillor Guy Anderson suggested a contribution be made to relief efforts in the earthquake struck country.
Deputy Mayor Laura Haight suggested councillors have the option of donating their 150 dollar per diem rate they will receive for attending the first budget meeting on March 1st.
She notes many individuals have already contributed to help efforts to recover from what is being billed as the worst disaster ever in this part of the western hemisphere.
Haight notes people made contributions when the Tsunami hit southeast Asia five years ago, and there was generosity to Bruce County during the Walkerton water crisis 10 years ago — so she is just fine with attending a budget meeting for free.
The Deputy Mayor hopes council can come up with a dollar amount based on those who forgo their per diem and then get the money to those who can be of the most help on the ground in Haiti.
There is no decision yet on which relief agency council plans to give the money to.
