It’s time to celebrate the chicken wing!
Kelsey’s restaurants across the province are hosting Free Wing Night tonight.
From 4 PM till close today — every person who walks into Kelsey’s will get a free pound of wings to enjoy in the restaurant.
Brian Johnson — the owner of Kelsey’s in Owen Sound and Collingwood — says the event marks Kelsey’s introduction of chicken wings to Ontario 30 years ago.
Kelsey’s first opened its doors in 1978 in Oakville with wings on the menu.
Johnson notes it’s hard to believe chicken wings use to be thrown out — now they have become a popular appetizer.
Johnson says his customers now ask for wings to watch hockey or football games.
As for the restaurant industry — Johnson feels 2010 will be a good year.
Johnson admits most restaurants suffered over the last year — partly due to the economic downturn but he also feels the introduction of new restaurants had a factor.
Johnson says restaurants will have to continue to evolve to be successful.
He says they have to meet the needs of all of their clients — from the 8 year old child to their parents and grandparents.
