Two upcoming public meetings will give Meaford residents a chance to share their thoughts on how the municipality is planning for the future.
The first one takes place this evening at 7 PM at the Woodford Hall and on Wednesday at 7 PM at the Meaford Hall.
Meaford CAO Frank Miele says the objective of both meetings is to provide background about the the municipal corporate strategic plan and the economic development strategy.
Miele notes they are two important documents Meaford never had previously.
He says the meetings will feature a presentation on the two documents that zero in on the three main themes of healthy communities, a healthy economy, and community focused services.
One of the goals is to increase the overall tax base by 30 per cent by 2020.
Miele says that will be achieved by increasing the commercial and industrial components of the tax base.
He says an Official Plan for land use is of no value without the other two planning documents.
Miele says you cannot build houses if you do not have industries to support them.
He says all of the documents must feed into the corporate strategy in order to provide a vision and game plan of where the municipality wants to be.
Once the meetings are complete, staff will review the input and revise the plans based on the information.
The public will still be able to share their views by phone or email for another week before the final draft goes to council for approval.
