This is the week to sit back and remember all the good work our Public Health Inspectors to to try and keep our food, air and water safe.
This is Environmental Public Health Week, an event that has been going since 2007 to recognize the important work Public health officials do on a daily basis.
Andrew Barton is the Manager of Health Hazard at the Grey Bruce Health Unit.
He and many of his inspectors are working in the shadows, out of the public view until there is a crisis to deal with.
He says when things are going well, then people tend not to know the public health inspectors are there.
Barton says his staff cover a wide range of environmental and health issues in the two counties, ranging from inspections of private sewage systems, deal with food safety issues, communicable disease control, safe drinking and recreation water and investigate outbreaks of rabies.
He says although his staff is stretched a bit, they do manage to look after all their areas of responsibility.
Barton says despite the personnel concerns, public health in Grey Bruce is never in danger of being compromised.
