2009 was a roller coaster year when it came to building permits in Kincardine.
Building and Planning Manager says at the end of 2009, 253 permits were issued, compared to 323 in 2008.
The 2009 construction value was 19.1 million dollars and it was 39 million in 2008.
Barr says the type of construction in 2009 was similar to 2008, except for single detached homes.
There were 35 permits issued for those last year, and 57 the year before.
Barr says the economic downturn in the middle of 2009 is what led to the drop in permit activity, and then in October, activity began to increase.
She says that in October, November, and December of 2009, more permits were issued than in the same period in 2008.
As for 2010, Barr says her department is receiving phone calls from developers, including those interested in possible large commercial developments.
She hopes that’s a sign the economy is on the upswing and 2010 will be a good year.
