If you have managed to drag yourself out of bed this morning, welcome to the most depressing day of the year.
That has been determined by research done by Professor Cliff Arnall of Cardiff University.
It determined that looming bills to pay, broken resolutions and terrible January weather result in the biggest emotional hangover of the year on Blue Monday.
Don Thibert says they commissioned a survey by Harris Decima that found 59 per cent of Canadians found 2009 to be mediocre at best with one quarter saying it was a real downer.
The biggest cause of the blues were the economy, work, family matters and threat of illness like H1N1.
Thibert says 74 per cent of employed Canadians say they suffer work related blues and that has increased by 11 per cent in just five years.
He says the most depressing thing about work according to the survey, is stress, juggling work and family and pay.
In addition 37 per cent of Canadians consider their work just a job as opposed to a career that gives them opportunity for growth and advancement.
Thibert says in the worst case scenario, a person who is really depressed about their job should consider a career change.
