Grades 7 and 8 students in the Bluewater District School Board may find themselves on a bus this fall, instead of walking to school.
Currently, the older elementary students have to walk to school if they live less than 3.2 kilometres away.
However, a recommendation is going to the board that all elementary students living more than 1.6 kilometress away from school be bused.
The issue may come up at the regular school board meeting on Tuesday.
Transportation Director Steve Lustig says the change is being considered because the province wants to standardize busing rules and distances.
As a result — the Bluewater board, the Bruce Grey Catholic board and the French Catholic board in Owen Sound are working on harmonizing their bus routes.
About 170 Grade 7 and 8 students in the Bluewater system would be affected.
Lustig says the cost may be close to zero, because buses are not full and many are already running the same routes to pick up younger kids.
