The Owen Sound branch of the Canadian Red Cross decided to open today, in order to accept donations to Haitian relief efforts.
Community Services Co-ordinator Stephanie Murray says the office — next to the Boot and Blade restaurant on 2nd Avenue East — is open until 2 PM today.
So far — a total of 8,640 dollars has been donated at the Owen Sound office.
However, Murray has no idea how many local residents are donating on-line at www.redcross.ca or by calling the 1-800-418-1111.
The Canadian Red Cross had received nearly 11 million dollars in donations by Friday morning from across Canada.
Murray says the local Red Cross will be open again on Monday from 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM.
