The recession hit “high-end” homes in the Blue Mountains during 2009.
Chief Building Inspector Greg Miller says the town issued approximately 51 million dollars worth of construction permits last year.
But that is down 16 per cent from 2008.
The new total is also down 30 per cent from the level two years ago.
Miller says the last half of the year continued slow and he feels many developers are taking a wait and see approach, before committing to a lot of new construction in 2010.
During 2009 there were only 69 new home permits issued compared with 108 the previous year.
Greg Miller says the first half of this year will likely continue to be slow, but there are several projects awaiting development in the Blue Mountains, so there could be a big push in the summer or fall.
The biggest projects for 2010 are expected to be the new 6 million dollar Town hall, and a new medical clinic in Thornbury.
