We continue to receive messages from the contingent of local missionaries in Haiti.
The latest comes from South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Gwen Gilbert this morning, who’s part of the 53 member group from Sauble Christian Fellowship Church.
She emailed Bayshore Broadcasting News that everyone continues to be doing well in the aftermath of the quake.
She says supplies are now arriving and everyone is working hard to meet the needs of the Hatian people.
Gilbert says “its an honour that God placed us in Haiti during this time of great need and that we have an opportunity to help them”.
The Mayor also encourages everyone in Grey Bruce to consider making a financial donation through one of the many legitimate charitable organizations collecting money.
The group was scheduled to return home next Wednesday — but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.
Sauble church member Kathy Hauer says the group can’t make it to the pick up point on the other side of Point au Prince where Canadian military aircraft are evacuating those wanting to go home.
Hauer says there’s a meeting scheduled today between the Pastor and the head of the Mission of Hope.
And she says they expect the number of orphans to skyrocket in what was already a grim situation with more than 8 thousand orphans within a 5 kilometre radius of the Mission of Hope — before the quake.
