If you were born in 1991 or later, play volleyball, and want to get better at it, then here’s an opportunity for you.
The Big Bruce Volleyball Club is inviting boys from Grey-Bruce to its upcoming tryout practices.
The first one is tonight and the second one is on January 19th.
Both practices run from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM at Chesley District High School.
Head Coach Barry Mutrie says they’ve been connecting with all of the boys high school volleyball coaches in the area to spread the word.
He says all players are welcome to attend the practices.
Mutrie doesn’t like to cut anyone from the club at the tryout practices, unless he thinks the player would not have a positive experience.
He says they try to accomadate all players from grades 9 to 12, and the club isn’t competitive, although they do compete in a league.
Mutrie says the main thing is for high school players to go back to their high school teams with stronger skills.
He notes Big Bruce has the same number of practices as a regular high school season usually does.
Mutrie says if players want to reach the OFSSA or CWOSSA levels of competition, they need club experience.
The Big Bruce Volleyball club runs from January to early May, and participates in tournaments in the Southwestern Ontario 18U Volleyball League.
It costs 110 dollars to register, the fee includes insurance, uniforms, and league fees.
Mutrie is a former captain and assistant coach of the Ontario provincial volleyball team and currently coaches the Chesley Cougars senior team.
