Three milestones have been reached by Crime Stoppers Grey Bruce.
Coordinator Constable Dean Rutherford says the branch surpassed the 30-million dollar mark in seized drugs; surpassed the 10-thousand mark in tips received and 200-thousand dollar mark in rewards approved — all milestones are since inception in 1987.
Rutherford says the other milestone is the number of tip received in 2009.
514 total tips were received in Grey Bruce in 2009 which is the highest Rutherford has seen since he began working with Crime Stoppers for 11 years.
Rutherford say the number of tips received this past years has increased because of web tips — a new system where people can safely send crime tips to a secured server online.
Rutherford says the Ontario and Canada numbers are higher than some international numbers on Crime Stoppers.
He adds at the international Crime Stoppers conference, Ontario Crime Stoppers returns with many awards.
Rutherford says Crime Stoppers remain community policing at its best and looks forward to 2010 and making the streets the safest they can be.
